Volunteer Roles

Board of Directors

Board members participate in transacting the business of MGFOA; deciding policy matters; determining the time, place, and program of meetings; making and executing contracts for MGFOA; studying all matters referred to it by members of MGFOA; and performing other duties pertaining to the advancement, welfare, and the best interest of MGFOA and members. The Board of Directors establishes procedures and internal controls for the proper manner of receiving and disbursing funds, provides for an annual inspection of MGFOA’s accounts and annually adopts a budget for the following year.
Estimated Time Commitment: 4 hours per month for a 2-year term
Current Openings: Four seats in 2023-2024 (2 Board Members, Treasurer & 2 Associate Board Members)

Presenters and Speakers

Volunteer speakers deliver educational talks to MGFOA members in the interest of advancing the practice of public finance. Speakers are responsible for developing and delivering educational content.
Estimated Time Commitment: 2-6 hours per event

Committees

Committee members attend meetings and work with other members of the committee as needed. Members prepare for and participate fully in meetings, contribute positively to the discussions, and fulfill responsibilities assigned to them. Most Committees meet virtually. MGFOA Current Committees; Accounting Standards, Legislative, Mentoring & Membership, Professional Development & Technology Resources. Complete an application to communicate your interest and a Committee Chairperson will respond with further details.
Estimated Time Commitment: 2 hours per month for 1 year (depending on meeting scheduling)

Conference Moderators, Greeters & CPE Scanners

Assist with programs, events, and activities organized by the MGFOA. Event volunteers work cooperatively as a team member to complete specific volunteer assignments on the day of the event or days leading up to an event.
Estimated Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per event
Current Openings: Annual Conference event moderator, volunteers, CPE scanning
